This Cookie Policy explains how Guitar Mind uses cookies and similar storage technologies (local storage, IndexedDB) across our public website and the app. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy. The controller responsible for these technologies is Adam Mieczysław Węgrzyn (contact details in the Privacy Policy).
1. What Are Cookies & Similar Technologies
Cookies are small text files a website can store in your browser to remember information between visits. We also use related browser storage — local storage and IndexedDB — which work similarly but aren't sent with every network request. This policy covers all of them together as "storage technologies."
2. On the Marketing Site
The public pages at guitar-mind.com (landing page, pricing, about, this legal section) do not set any cookies of their own. The interactive demo embedded on the landing page is part of the app, so Section 3 applies to it. The only thing stored is your response to our cookie preferences popup — saved in your browser's local storage under the key cookie_consent for 180 days — recording whether you allow the Analytics category described below. No identifying data leaves your browser from this popup, and you can reopen it any time via the "Cookie settings" button in the bottom-left corner of the page.
3. On the App
Once you sign in and use the app at /app, the following storage technologies come into play:
- Sign-in / session (Firebase Authentication). Keeps you signed in between visits using your browser's IndexedDB or local storage — not a tracking cookie. This is strictly necessary for the app to work; it can't be disabled while staying signed in.
- Product analytics & error reporting (PostHog). May set cookies and/or use local storage to recognise your browser across a session, measure which features you use, and capture crash/error reports so we can fix bugs. Once you're signed in, we also identify you to PostHog using your account ID, email address, and display name (if set), so activity can be linked to your account. It runs only inside the app (including the demo embedded on the landing page), and only if you have allowed the Analytics category in our cookie preferences popup — until you make that choice, or if you decline, PostHog does not run at all. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
- Offline cache. The app stores its own files (code, images, sounds) in your browser's cache storage via a service worker so it loads quickly and works when installed. This contains no personal data and is strictly necessary for the installed app.
- App preferences. Things like your practice settings are cached locally for responsiveness and synced to your account when you're signed in.
- Billing (Stripe). If you go through checkout or the billing portal, Stripe may set its own cookies on its hosted pages to process payment securely and prevent fraud, per Stripe's own cookie practices.

5. Your Choices
- Cookie preferences popup. On your first visit we ask you to choose Reject or Accept before using the site; both options are equally available and the site works the same either way. Analytics stays off unless you accept. Change your choice any time via the "Cookie settings" button in the corner of the page. Necessary storage (sign-in) can't be turned off, as the app needs it to work.
- In the app. If you open the app without having seen the popup (for example in the installed app), it asks the same question. You can turn analytics on or off at any time under Settings → Privacy → Analytics.
- Browser controls. You can block or delete cookies and clear local storage/IndexedDB at any time from your browser settings. Doing so will sign you out and reset any cached preferences.
- Changing your mind. A new choice takes effect immediately, without reloading. Withdrawing consent stops new analytics from being collected; if you'd like your account's existing analytics history deleted too, contact us at adam@guitar-mind.com.
